Homicide Suspect In Custody

Santa Fe Springs - On April 2, 2010 at approximately 2:25am officers responded to a call of a male with a gunshot wound inside a converted garage at the 11700 block of Smith Avenue. Upon arrival, officers declared the victim deceased. Whittier Police Detectives arrived on scene and began an intensive criminal investigation, which led to the identification of a suspect in this case. Upon identification, detectives and patrol personnel initiated a massive search for the suspect. At approximately 3:30pm, officers were alerted to a suspicious person in the area of Pioneer and Alburtis. Officers located a subject who matched the suspect description running along the railroad tracks on Los Nietos Road and a foot pursuit ensued. The suspect was ultimately taken into custody by Whittier Police Officers in the area of the riverbed and the 605 Freeway.

Gonzales, Gerald Luis (DOB 11-21-81) was transported to the Whittier Police Jail and booked for Murder.

The investigation is ongoing on this case and no other details are being released at this time.
