Kidnapp Suspect Arrested

Whittier, CA. – On September 26, 2007, 29 year-old Moises Humberto Hernandez, was arrested by the Whittier Police Department for the kidnapping of Angel Irizarry Jr. Hernandez took the boy during the commission of car theft that occurred on September 21, 2007. Hernandez had taken the car from the area of Pierce Avenue and Philladelphia Streeet. The car had been left running and unattended with 1 ½ year-old child seated inside. The child’s father parked the car in an alley as he went into his grandmother’s home. The kidnapping of the child resulted in an Amber Alert. The child and the car were found in the city of Los Angeles three hours later.

Whittier Police Detectives were able to follow up on information that led them to Hernandez. With the assistance of the Culver City Police Department, Hernandez was arrested in the city of Culver City. Hernandez was initially arrested for an outstanding warrant for grand theft of an automobile on an unrelated case. Investigations revealed that Hernandez’s home is a few blocks away from where the vehicle had been abandoned. Hernandez admitted to the crime while in custody and indicated that he acted alone. Hernandez is charged with kidnapping and is currently in custody at the Whittier Police Department Jail. Hernandez will be arraigned at the Whittier Court House on Thursday, September 28th, and he currently has $130,000 bail.
