Fuel Thief In Custody

On March 4th at 8:30pm, the owner of a diesel tractor parked in the area of Shoemaker and Beaty Avenue, saw two males concluding a theft of fuel from both tanks of his tractor. As the suspect van drove off, the victim called for ‘back up’ and his brother, who lived down the street, arrived in his own vehicle and a chase commenced. It eventually ended at Mills Avenue and Whittier Boulevard as a Sheriff's helicopter reported the van had crashed and two males were running from the scene. The driver was caught about a block away and was positively identified. During the chase, the driver of the van tried to run the victim and brother off of the road and a charge of assault with a deadly weapon was added. While the passenger is still outstanding, the driver Daniel Guzman Garcia (5-5-84) of Southgate, was arrested.
