Whittier, CA - After 200 hours of planning, surveillance, and research spanning three months, Operation “Bear Claw” commenced on Thursday, January 28, 2010. 153 personnel from Whittier PD, La Habra PD, Montebello PD, Placentia PD, Riverside PD, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, DEA, ATF, LA IMPACT, Marshall’s Office, DCFS, and LA County Probation executed simultaneous warrants on ten locations throughout LA and Riverside Counties. Of the 153 personnel, 43 were sworn personnel from Whittier, five were volunteers, two CSI and a Code Enforcement Officer. Station #28 LA County Fire also staged to assist.
Ten teams were organized to execute the warrants by the Special Enforcement Team (SET). Each team was led by two members of our Detective Division. All warrants were delivered safely without any major incident or injuries.
As a result of the operation, eight subjects were taken into custody for numerous open charges, and one was cited out in the field. Nine firearms of various calibers were seized and two children were taken into protective custody by DCFS.
