Car Jacking
Whittier police officers were passing by Rose Hills Cemetery, when they witnessed what they believed was a simple assault between two male Hispanics at the main gate to Rose Hills. They tried to brake up the fight and detain both men when the driver began to run. He was eventually detained in the center divider of Workman Mill Road. Officers were unable to question either the suspect or victim because both were Spanish speaking. They requested assistance from the Pico Rivera Sheriffs Department. Shortly thereafter numerous deputies and California Highway Patrol officers arrived. It was determined that the suspect had earlier carjacked a Toyota P/U, using a simulated handgun. The victim gave chase. The suspect crashed the car and ran. He then attempted to carjack another vehicle but was unsuccessful and ran again to the main gate of Rose Hills where the victim finally caught him and the fight ensued. The entire incident occurred in the county portion of Whittier and was handled by Sheriffs Department.
