On August 1, 2009, Investigators from the Whittier Police Department continuously investigated the abduction of Cynthia Hernandez by her uncle, Juan Hernandez. Throughout the day, investigators from the California Department of Justice, specifically the Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement, assisted Whittier Investigators. At 9:00pm, Investigators from the California DOJ located the suspect vehicle in the San Dimas area. A short time later, the suspect and the victim approached the vehicle and were detained by investigators.
Cynthia appears unharmed and the suspect has been arrested for child abduction and various parole violations. The Whittier Police Department would like to express its thanks to the California Department of Justice for their significant contributions to the successful resolution of this case. Whittier PD would also like to thank all other agencies who assisted as well as citizens who reported vital information.
