Solo Vehicle Traffic Accident Leaves Three Dead

A vehicle was traveling southbound on Colima Road. As the driver attempted to make the curve before the street reaches Mar Vista, she lost control. The small compact ScionTS, hit a tree splitting it in half. There were a total of five occupants in the car. The driver was transported by ambulance to UCI Medical Center. A male passenger was airlifted to USC Medical Center both were listed in stable condition. The three others occupants, two males and a female were pronounced dead at the scene. The two people who were transported to the hospital were identified as Xenia Guerra and Hector Saenz both 18 years old. The other three occupants were identified as Jennifer Unzueta, 18 years old, and Albert Valasquez and Josh Gutierrez both who were 19 years of age.

The traffic collision is being investigated by the Whittier Police Department in conjunction with the California Highway Patrol. All the traffic for north and southbound Colima Rd was shut down for most of the evening into the late night.
