Suspect Arrested After Felony Vandalism and Assault on a Police Officer

Jorge Balanzar, a 36-year-old Whittier man of Whittier was thrown out of "Party Snacks" liquor store at 12814 Whittier Blvd. earlier in the day (9/15/09) by the proprietor. Balanzar returned later (8:00pm) to buy some chocolate but was refused service and told to leave again. He jumped up onto the counter and destroyed display cases, threw food items around the store, and slapped the clerk twice. After being detained by a Whittier Police Officer, Balanzar jumped up and charged towards the Officer and hit his hand in the related scuffle. No one was injured during the confrontation and Balanzar was arrested for felony vandalism and assaulting a Police Officer.
