On May 15, 2007 at 10:20pm, officers respond to an armed robbery that had just occurred to the front of 12417 Whittier Blvd., Whittier High School. After receiving the suspect description over the radio, an officer located a car matching the description of the suspect vehicle in the area or Painter Avenue and Hadley Street. A check of the license plate showed the vehicle to be stolen.
When officers got behind the suspect vehicle, it attempted to flee, resulting in a short pursuit. The suspect vehicle ultimately came to an abrupt stop and the driver fled on foot, dropping the victim's wallet in the process. Four additional suspects (1 adult and 3 juveniles) remained in the vehicle and were taken into custody. Additional property from an earlier robbery in Pico Rivera was found inside the vehicle.
Acting on information from the suspects, officers searched the area for a weapon that was thrown out of the vehicle prior to the pursuit. The weapon was located in the 13600 block of Dittmar Drive.
An initial search using Whittier and La Habra police canines did not locate the driver, however a patrol sergeant located the driver at a later time in the area of Mills Ave. and Lambert Road.
Four juveniles and one adult, all residents of Los Angeles, were booked for robbery at the Whittier Police Jail.
