Two Officers Save A Life

On Monday, May 7, 2007, at approximately 1415 hours, Officers Mike Karson and Nancy Ogle were dispatched to 12700 block of Oak St. Apartment #3. The call indicated a 43 year old non-breather. As officers arrived they found a male lying on his back not breathing and with no pulse. They started CPR, with Officer Karson doing chest compressions and Officer Ogle utilizing the Ambu-bag for breathing. During the rescue the Ambu-bag malfunctioned and Officer Ogle had to run back to her unit for another one, while Officer Karson continued chest compressions. When Officer Ogle returned they continued team CPR. When paramedics arrived from Station 28, the officers relinquished rescue efforts. They continued to work on him and got a pulse. The man was identified as 43 year old Daniel Garcia a Whittier resident. He was transported to Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital, and according to Captain Gary Morgan of Station #28, the efforts of Officers Karson and Ogle allowed them to revive Mr. Garcia. This was an excellent job by two veteran officers.
