Pedestrian Struck by Motorist

On January 10th at 10:45 am, Officers were called to an auto vs. pedestrian traffic collision at the intersection of Valley View Avenue and Rosecrans Avenue. While enroute to the call, information was received that the pedestrian was non-responsive and lying in the street. Upon further investigation, Officers determined the injured party, a 49 year old man from Whittier, was crossing the street in the crosswalk along the South side of Valley View when he was struck by a 2006 Chevrolet Blazer driven by a 41 year old man from Pico Rivera. The driver of the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Rosecrans and turned southbound on Valley View when he ran into the pedestrian. According to the driver of the vehicle, he never saw the man as he was crossing in the crosswalk. The subsequent impact caused the man to be thrown approximately 30 feet south of the crosswalk. The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics prior to being transported to a local hospital for treatment.
