Santa Fe Spring, CA - On July 2, 2008 at 4:45 p.m. officers on patrol in the Walmart Parking Lot recognized a vehicle that was wanted in connection with a recent residential burglary that occurred in Friendly Hills. When a subject returned to the vehicle, he was detained and a field investigation began. Officers located stolen property and burglary tools on the suspect and in the vehicle. Derek Brandon Smits (DOB 2-16-79) from the County area of Whittier was arrested for burglary, possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools.
