Armed Suspects Arrested after Pursuit

From WDL:

WHITTIER - Three men believed to have ties to various area street gangs were arrested with a handgun after a brief car chase Saturday, authorities said.

Gilbert Gonzalez, 25, of Whittier, Daniel Gonzalez, 28, of La Puente and Edgar Archila, 20, of Bellflower were booked on suspicion of felony possession of a firearm and misdemeanor evading, Whittier police Sgt. Jim Uhl said.

The incident began about 9:15 a.m. after someone reported a suspicious vehicle with a possible armed person inside in the area of the "five points" intersection, where Whittier and Washington boulevards meet, Uhl said.

An officer tried to pull over a car matching the description but it sped away, starting a chase that lasted less than a minute before the suspects gave up, the sergeant said.

A handgun was found inside the car, he added.

"They all appear to all have some type of gang affiliation," Uhl said.

According to court records, Daniel Gonzalez and Gilbert Gonzalez are being held in lieu of $35,00 bail. Archila is being held without bail.
