Jorge Cuevas-Mares Drug Trafficking Organization Taken Down

Since March 2007, the Whittier Police Department in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration and over 16 state and local law enforcement agencies, have been investigating the Jorge Cuevas-Mares Drug Trafficking Organization (DTO). While the initial investigation was initiated by the Whittier Police Department’s Narcotics Division, the investigation quickly evolved to a national scale. The Cuevas DTO facilitated narcotics shipments from Mexico to various cities throughout the United States to include: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Detroit, Indianapolis, Indiana, Philadelphia, and Dodge City. To date, this investigation has resulted in the seizure of approximately 300 kilograms of cocaine, 160 pounds of methamphetamine and the seizure of narcotics proceeds in excess of $3,000,000 USC.

On December 1, 2008, at 6:00am, the Whittier Police Department, DEA, and the Orange County Regional Narcotics Suppression Program executed federal search warrants on three locations associated with the Southern California members of the Cuevas DTO. As a result, both Jennifer Sendis and Nicolas Sendis were taken into federal custody. Simultaneously, San Francisco FBI executed six search warrants in northern California and arrested five(5) additional suspects. As a result of this multi-agency effort, assets in excess of $700,000 were seized.
Aforementioned, to date, the investigation resulted in the seizure of over 300 kilograms of cocaine, 160 pounds of methamphetamine, narcotics proceeds in excess of $3,000,000 USC and the arrests of 32 defendants. The DEA is also actively prosecuting the seizure of additional homes and… vehicles directly affiliated with the Cuevas DTO. Agents believe the Cuevas DTO was responsible for transporting ton quantities of cocaine and methamphetamine each year from the Los Angeles Area. The arrests and seizure of narcotics significantly impacts the organization’s ability to purchase and distribute narcotics throughout the local area and the United States.
