On September 28th at 7:30pm, Whittier Police Officers patrolling Santa Fe Springs, received a call of a possible DUI in progress in the area of Telegraph and Shoemaker. As dispatchers received updates, the suspect vehicle had driven on sidewalks and had hit a car in the parking lot at Wal-Mart. Minutes later, Officers located the suspect vehicle at the intersection of Mills Avenue and Mulberry Drive and attempted a traffic stop resulting in a vehicle pursuit. The pursuit continued about a mile and a half until the suspect nearly collided with a car stopped at Mills and Lambert. The suspect lost control, collided with the curb, skidded up onto the dirt rail-road easement on the Northeast corner of the intersection and then back out onto the roadway. At this point, due to the reckless driving, pursuing Officers decided to cancel the pursuit however, the suspect ended up making a Southbound turn onto Valley View which is a cul-de-sac. Officers took that opportunity to fall in behind the suspect once again and she exited the vehicle just south of her residence. A very short foot pursuit took place and the suspect was ultimately captured.
Gloria Martinez (1-27-52) of Whittier, was transported to Whittier Hospital due to a head laceration. Doctors confirmed she had no other injuries and she received a few stitches for the cut however, she was admitted to the hospital overnight for observation. Martinez was cited out for evasion, DUI, and Hit and Run.
