Injured Citizen Refuses Treatment

On September 14th at 5:41pm, Enoka Futui, a 38 year-old male from Whittier, went to Whittier Hospital to be treated for a head injury he received as a result of being drunk and falling at his residence. Unsatisfied with the wait at the hospital, he made a brief scene and then left on foot. Moments later an Officer saw the subject walking down the street bleeding profusely from his head. He was less than cooperative and extremely intoxicated however, he eventually submitted and allowed himself to be cuffed by the officers as they investigated what happened.

A short time later, relatives arrived and were going to take him back to the hospital so he could be treated, but he refused. He then began to struggle while he was cuffed, causing his head to bleed even more. Paramedics arrived, but he refused to be treated. This was despite the fact he clearly required medical treatment. Based on his inability to make a rational decision and care for himself, he was arrested for public drunkenness. He then resisted the officers and paramedics as they tried to get him into the ambulance. Ultimately, Mr. Futui received the care he needed.
