Robbery Suspects Taken Into Custody

On May 5, 2009, a kidnapping for the purposes of robbery was initiated in Santa Fe Springs. Two suspects, armed with a knife, forced the victim into his vehicle and made him drive to his residence is East Los Angeles. Once there, the suspects obtained $2000 in cash. The suspects then forced the victim to drive to his jewelry business in Los Angeles, where they stole a solid gold bar. Afterwards, they made the victim accompany them to sell the gold bar, which he did for $5000. During the incident, two additional suspects followed the primary suspects and the victim in a green Ford Explorer.

Through investigation, Santa Fe Springs Detectives identified one of the suspects and gathered critical evidence. After obtaining a search warrant for the suspect’s residence, Detectives took four suspects into custody and recovered crucial evidence establishing the crime.

The arrested parties were charged with robbery, kidnapping and possession of an assault rifle and were identified as:

Oscar Barragan, 35 years, Los Angeles
Matthew Cardenas, 23 years, Los Angeles
Sergio Anguiano, 33 years, Los Angeles
Juan Vargas, 29 years, Los Angeles
