While patrolling the area of Shoemaker Ave., near the bridge over the 5 Freeway, a Santa Fe Springs Patrolman came across numerous speed racers. Two of them were racing, and when the officer attempted to stop them, the two racers fled. One of the vehicles got away, but the officer was able to forward the license plate number to dispatch. The other racer drove at a high rate of speed for about 1/2 mile before yielding to the officer and was taken into custody without incident. The suspects vehicle was impounded and the driver was found to be unlicensed. An arrest of the second racer is forthcoming.
